Sporades islands – Volos port

Sporades area with its amazing marine park may be explored either from Volos port or Skiathos island.

Volos is a major port located on the Pagasetic gulf. Besides a major industrial port Volos is also a starting point for the Sporades islands, or for people that want to combine the Pelion Peninsula with them. Volos is located 35 km away from national airport of Volos, 235 km away from the International airport of Thessaloniki ‘’Makedonia’’, and 345km far from International airport of Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos”.

Sporades islands

The lasting period of sunshine in the Sporades is excellent in summer, when clear skies prevail, and it is also good in May and September, while in the rest of the year, it is not so high, since there are several cloudy periods. The temperature of the sea in the area of the Sporades, still cold in May and cool in June, becomes high enough for swimming from July to September. The climate is similar to that of Cyclades but with not so much strong winds. And still, they last for a short period, mainly in autumn.

Sporades islands – Skiathos island port

Skiathos Marina is located in Skiathos town. It is close to the commercial port and just 2 km from the airport where many domestic flights from Athens and Thessaloniki airport, also charter flights from European countries connecting the island directly. Another way to get to Skiathos is by boat as there are two ports from where you can take the ferry boat to Skiathos: one is Agios Konstantinos and the second one is Volos.
